LG Telecom is still mulling over which 4G technology to choose. During the Wednesday's Q3 result conference call, LG Telecom said, "We are still deliberating and the final decision will come after careful consideration of technology isolation, global roaming gap and handset supply from an objective viewpoint."
The carrier emphasized, "We are planning to invest in next generation network, securing a low-frequency band which is inductive to coverage expansion."
The Korean government announced its plan to reallocate the frequency bands below 1 GHz. The government will rearrange highly efficient frequency bands including 800 MHz used by SK Telecom, but it is still unclear how the reallocation will be realized. The 800 MHz band is presently used for 2G, but there is a strong call for the diversion of the band for 4G, following the decision of World Radio-communication Conference. LG Telecom wants the very 800 MHz band.
LG Telecom announced its plan to advance 4G investment to enhance mobile internet business. The company also said its EV-DO Rev.A service, OZ surpassed 0.4 million in the number of subscribers and data ARPU for an average month is 1.7 times higher than the overall ARPU, which indicates the increase in large customers.
