The ng Connect Program today announced that its LTE-enabled HumanKiosk solution concept developed by MediaTile, a world-leading provider of cellular digital signage solutions and Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU), has won a first place CTIA Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Award in the Enterprise & Vertical Market Solution - Mobile Marketing or Advertising category.

More than 80 prominent media and industry analysts judged the 300-plus entries submitted for the E-Tech Awards program this year. Products and services were judged on innovation, functionality, technological importance, implementation and the overall “wow” factor.

Huawei Unveils World’s First Triple-mode LTE modem

Huawei unveiled its latest innovation in mobile broadband terminal devices, the E398 modem, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The E398 is the world’s first triple-mode LTE modem compatible with all three major network standards: LTE, UMTS, and GSM.

The triple-mode modem, based on Qualcomm's MDM9200TM chipset, will enable end-users to surf with high speed provided by LTE technology while seamlessly switching to other standards (UMTS or GSM). The modem also supports multiple mainstream LTE frequencies.

Samsung demonstrates the first LTE netbook

Samsung Electronics  is demonstrating the world’s first Long Term Evolution (LTE) netbook PC at Mobile World Congress 2010. Samsung’s own in-house designed LTE modem chipset, Kalmia, enabled the development of a small form factor netbook with LTE capability. Following the company’s latest deployment of a commercial LTE dongle, Samsung reasserts its industry-leading position in next generation mobile technology with the largest line-up of devices.

LG Given Green Light For Deployment Of Next-Generation LTE Modem In Japan

LG Electronics announced that its LD100 data modem has become the first long-term evolution device (LTE) to receive Telecom Engineering Center (TELEC) certification, clearing the way for the modem to be used in Japan.

Designated by Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), TELEC certificates are issued to products that have passed a series of tests for consistency with Japanese Radio Law technical regulations. The TELEC certification follows the approval last year from the United States’ Federal Communications Commission (FCC), another crucial step in LG’s vigorous push to become an industry leader in the LTE market.

“Achieving TELEC certification for our LTE modem shows once again that LG has the leading LTE network technology,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With the technology expected to be commercialized this year, this puts LG in the enviable pole position in the LTE market.”

WiBro Loser iRiver Coming Back with Network Device

The mp3 player maker, based in Seoul, unveiled several network devices at CES in Las Vegas, Nevada, including WAVE-HOME.  The full-touch screen equipped WAVE-HOME is composed of a body and wireless handset that is able to offer various information like local information, real-time traffic information, as well as stock and news service through an alliance with telecommunications companies.

Reigncom has also demontsrated a VoIP phone, 'iRiver Wave Phone,' which is able to connect web browsing service.

In 2006, the iRiver maker declared its intention to enter the WiBro market as a pioneer and had put its strength on the fledgling business. Although the company had worked closely with WiBro operator KT Koran and provided its WiBro device G10 model to Omnivision in Venezuela. The problem was that the WiBro market did not boom in Korea or abroad. About two years after entering the WiBro market, the company dropped its WiBro business after suffering big losses in the area.

NeoWave Unveils M2M WiBro Device

NeoWave, a Korean communications equipment developer, announced that it completed development of KWN-B2000 WiBro device targeting machine to machine (M2M) businesses. The device passed the tests of local WiBro service provider, KT, said NeoWave.
 
KWN-B2000 is an external modem for credit card checkers. The company operated a dedicated division for the last one and a half year to plan, choose WiBro solutions, explore potential market, and complete development of the product.
 
NeoWave selected XRO Series WiBro solution that was developed by local technologies. No royalty payment and quick responsiveness to changing market trends are the biggest advantages, said the company.
 
NeoWave plans to develop more WiBro devices for specialized as well as general market segments.
 
In the meantime, KT recently launched KT WiBro Biz Alliance to create new business models by incorporating WiBro with various businesses.
